The first permanent settlers came to Lorain from Vermont in 1807 and began a settlement which has grown to be one of the largest cities in Ohio. Located on Lake Erie, Lorain has been home to many industries including ship building, steel works, and car manufacturing. Located only 25 miles west of Cleveland, Lorain is close enough to the city to benefit from its educational, cultural and recreational opportunities yet far enough away to escape the problems of city living.
