Caring for the Whole Family Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and other related forms of memory impairment create medical, practical and emotional challenges which affect the whole family. Residents need safe, caring environments that promote a high quality of life. Families have their needs, too. These can include understanding specific medical conditions and developing ways of coping with day-to-day frustration, worry, uncertainty and other emotions. At Four Winds Community we have developed a comprehensive Memory Care & Support neighborhood which ministers to both residents and families by providing support and peace-of-mind. Our Program In 2008, we developed a new program for our residents with memory impairments. Our Namaste Program, which means honoring the spirit within, caters to our residents’ end of life care needs. Residents receive enhanced nursing care and are comforted and relaxed through a calming sensory experience. Residents spend quiet time with staff in our Mediation Room while listening to tranquil sounds and music, enjoying the smells of essential oils, and receiving massage and healing touch. Our goal is to honor our residents’ life experiences, while providing comfort and support. Our Approach Our goal for the Memory Care & Support neighborhood is to maintain a warm, friendly, tranquil environment where residents can feel safe. This includes creating individualized, home-like areas and leading meaningful and purposeful activities. We assist residents with daily living tasks and provide individual and group programming to positively stimulate the minds and spirits of our residents. Our staff works hard to provide each and every resident an enriched day and high quality of life. This often includes adapting to the emotional and behavioral changes in our residents, some of whom can have trouble comprehending their environment or who have recurring frustration with challenges or limitations.Our Staff At Four Winds Community, our staff is extensively trained to deal with all aspects of memory care.
