PORT CLINTON, OH (July 9, 2026)— United Church Homes is pleased to announce that The Parkvue Community on Catawba Island has received a $2,000 grant award from the Ottawa County Community Foundation (OCCF) to support enhancements to the assisted living outdoor deck, a popular gathering space for residents and their families.

The Ottawa County Community Foundation is a public charitable organization created by the citizens of Ottawa County to enrich the quality of life for individuals and families throughout the region. Through grants supporting education, health and social services, economic development, natural resources and the arts, OCCF invests in projects that strengthen local communities and improve quality of life.

The grant will help fund tables and chairs for the outdoor gathering space at The Parkvue Community on Catawba Island.

“We are grateful to the Ottawa County Community Foundation for recognizing the importance of creating spaces that foster connection and engagement for older adults,” said Paul Shaw, Administrator of The Parkvue Community on Catawba Island. “This outdoors space plays a vital role in the daily lives of our residents, providing opportunities for conversation, friendship and meaningful interactions with family members and fellow residents.”

The assisted living neighborhood serves older adults from Port Clinton, Catawba Island and Marblehead. As a smaller assisted living community, residents often depend on shared spaces that naturally encourage social interaction and engagement throughout the day.

Over the past decade, philanthropic support totaling approximately $27,200 has helped transform the outdoor deck into one of the community’s most valued amenities. Previous investments funded the construction of the deck, installation of a retractable awning and the purchase of initial outdoor furnishings. The new grant award will build upon those improvements and further enhance the resident experience.

Research has consistently shown that social isolation can negatively impact older adults, contributing to depression, cognitive decline and other adverse health outcomes. Accessible outdoor spaces provide important opportunities for residents to gather, enjoy fresh air and maintain meaningful social connections.

KENNESAW, GA (June 22, 2026)— United Church Homes announces that its Laurel’s Edge affordable housing community in Kennesaw, Georgia, has received support from the Cobb EMC Foundation to enhance resident safety and accessibility through the expansion of a key outdoor walking path.

Laurel’s Edge, located at 3950 Frey Road NW, Kennesaw, serves approximately 250 individuals and families within the Cobb EMC service district. The community is dedicated to transforming aging, advancing the mission of United Church Homes to create abundant life in community.

The funded project will widen an existing sidewalk that currently presents safety and accessibility challenges for residents who use walkers or wheelchairs. At present, the path is too narrow to allow for safe passing or turning, limiting residents’ ability to comfortably enjoy outdoor spaces together.

Because widening the sidewalks is the community’s highest priority, the project will proceed in phases. Funding received from the Cobb EMC Foundation will first be directed toward expanding the walking path to improve safety and accessibility for residents. United Church Homes plans to pursue additional grant support and other funding sources to complete the remaining outdoor enhancements, including patio improvements and gathering spaces, with the goal of finishing the full project as soon as possible.

In addition to the sidewalk improvements, future plans include new concrete pads to support expanded outdoor activity and social engagement, including a 10-by-10 seating area adjacent to a horseshoe pit and improved accessible entry to a covered patio. These enhancements are designed to promote mobility, encourage exercise and create more opportunities for residents to gather and connect with one another.

The community also wishes to recognize Frank Roth, a dedicated volunteer whose efforts helped bring the horseshoe pit to Laurel’s Edge. His contribution has provided residents with an enjoyable outdoor recreation space and inspired the vision for additional gathering areas around the amenity.

Educational Programming for Older Adults at South Haven Woods

Cleveland, OH (June 11, 2026)— United Church Homes (UCH) has been awarded a $5,000 grant from The McGregor Foundation to support educational programming for low-income older adults living at South Haven Woods, a UCH affordable housing community in Bedford, Ohio. The funding will launch a new series of health, wellness and enrichment programs designed to help residents age safely, independently and with greater social connection.

South Haven Woods serves adults ages 55 and older, most of whom live on fixed incomes and face barriers to accessing reliable aging-related education. The grant will support on-site educational sessions led by healthcare professionals, aging service agencies and community partners, as well as group outings to museums, theaters and other cultural destinations. These programs will benefit nearly 60 residents, offering practical tools for healthier living while creating opportunities for meaningful social engagement.

United Church Homes Celebrates Grand Re-Opening of Capitol Station Following Major Renovations and Housing Preservation Effort

INDIANAPOLIS — March 31, 2026 — United Church Homes (UCH) celebrated the grand re-opening of Capitol Station on Thursday, March 26, marking the completion of an extensive renovation and federal housing preservation effort that secures long-term affordability for low-income older adults in Indianapolis.

The event highlighted the successful execution of a Rental Assistance Demonstration for Project Rental Assistance Contract (RAD for PRAC) conversion through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. With additional capital for renovation generated via the 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity, this milestone ensures that all 50 apartments at Capitol Station remain affordable while undergoing a full modernization totaling more than $120,000 per apartment.

Guests and partners gathered to mark the community’s transformation. Following remarks from organizational leaders and project partners, attendees toured several newly renovated apartments, viewing firsthand the upgrades that improve both quality of life and long-term sustainability for residents.

The renovation project delivered significant improvements throughout the community, including updated kitchens and bathrooms, new HVAC systems, enhanced electrical and plumbing systems, accessibility upgrades, energy-efficient enhancements and strengthened safety features. Together, these renovations respond to the growing need for high-quality, affordable housing options for older adults in Indianapolis, ensuring residents can thrive in a safe, comfortable and supportive environment.

The transformation of Capitol Station was guided by the United Church Homes Preservation Team, led by Nate Bollinger, senior vice president of asset stewardship and Kevin Deegan, vice president of UCH Preservation. The team is dedicated to leveraging available federal housing programs and collaborating with key partners to preserve qualifying UCH properties nationwide. Their work ensures long-term affordability and modernization across UCH’s portfolio of nearly 80 owned and managed affordable housing communities throughout the United States.

“This renovation represents far more than upgraded apartments — it is an investment in dignity, stability, and opportunity for the older adults who call Capitol Station home,” said Ken Young, President and CEO of United Church Homes. “Through RAD for PRAC and the support of our partners, we have secured the long-term affordability of this community while ensuring residents have a safe, modern, and meaningful place to age abundantly.”

Since I have been here, I have made new friends, enjoyed creating memories and having so much fun. I find myself staying in my apartment more, but I enjoy and love my apartment—my home. The Parkvue Community Launches “Parkvue Pals” Program

Connecting Residents and Perkins High School Students

Sandusky, OH (Mar. 25, 2026) The Parkvue Community, a United Church Homes senior living community in Sandusky, has launched Parkvue Pals, an innovative intergenerational program that pairs residents with students from Perkins High School to build meaningful, one-on-one relationships.

The program thoughtfully matches residents and students based on shared interests, creating opportunities for conversation, mentorship and shared experiences. Beyond group gatherings such as ice cream socials, game nights, and themed celebrations, many pairs connect individually for regular visits, collaborative projects, and outings in the community.

For Brianna, a Perkins student and daughter of Parkvue Administrator Jedd Rawlins, the inspiration came from a personal connection. “When I met Edith, a resident at another long-term care facility, we talked for hours, sharing stories and experiences,” Brianna shared. “She told me she felt bored and disconnected, and that really stuck with me. I wanted to create a program where residents could have someone to look forward to — a ‘new friend.’”

Another student, Milly, emphasized the program’s impact on both generations. “I’ve learned that life doesn’t lose its spark as you grow older,” she said. “Spending time with my Pal, Peggy, has shown me that age is just a number. She finds joy in every day, and it’s contagious.”

Residents say the program has brought renewed joy to their daily lives. “It gives me something to look forward to,” said S. Gilbert. “She’s not family, she’s not staff — she’s someone choosing to spend time with me.” D. Beck added, “I wish more people could have a student to visit them. It’s such a special connection.”

Samantha Williams, Activities Director at Parkvue, noted the program’s broader benefits. “Residents have really enjoyed their high school Pals. They’re able to share experiences and contribute to the students’ lives in a meaningful way. It’s been wonderful to see the connections form.”

Parkvue Pals has also energized staff and strengthened teamwork across the community, as employees help residents prepare for events and welcome their student visitors.

“Parkvue Pals is a powerful example of community in action,” said Jedd Rawlins, Regional Director of Healthcare Services at Parkvue. “When generations connect, something remarkable happens. Our residents gain companionship and fresh perspective, and students gain wisdom and meaningful relationships. It truly embodies what it means to live abundantly together.”

The Parkvue Community plans to expand the program in the coming year to include additional residents and students, ensuring even more residents experience the joy of intergenerational friendship.

This program was funded by the Erie County Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council.

Key Leadership Appointments

• Jodi Naderhoff named Chief Financial Officer
  Naderhoff, a seasoned nonprofit healthcare finance leader, will succeed retiring CFO John Renner. She has served as a strategic consultant to UCH since early 2025, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in financial oversight.
• Scott Slutz named Chief Resources Officer
  Slutz, a senior leader within UCH for eleven years, will oversee Human Resources, Information Technology, and United Church Homes Management (UCHM). His expanded role strengthens alignment across people systems, technology infrastructure and management services.
• Nate Bollinger promoted to Senior Vice President of Asset Stewardship
  Bollinger, a senior leader within UCH for six years, will lead UCH’s asset stewardship functions, capital improvements, insurance, and the organization’s preservation and redevelopment initiatives across its affordable housing portfolio.

These appointments compliment earlier 2025 leadership enhancements, including the placement of Terry Spitznagel as Chief Operating Officer, supporting both healthcare and affordable housing operations across the organization.
