about fairhavenIt started with a vision.

In 1916, siblings Matthew and Jane Smith bequeathed 168 acres to the Toledo governing body of the Reformed Church to build a “fair haven” for seniors—a home that offered security, comfort and care. Four years later, the board of trustees purchased a six-acre farm in Upper Sandusky. That home became Fairhaven Community, the first in the United Church Homes family of campuses dedicated to the needs of older adults.

Throughout our history, our community has always been committed to values such as integrity, respect and dignity for our residents and our team members. As with all of United Church Homes’ communities, we respect everyone without regard to sexual identity or gender expression.

Today, Fairhaven continues to celebrate the uniqueness that is truly the spirit of United Church Homes. We embrace person-centered care and honor life stories. Our commitment to radical hospitality, team longevity and our beautiful amenities, including a stunning chapel and our community auditorium, are just a few of the things that set us apart.
