Virginia Duff became a resident at Parkvue Community in Sandusky, Ohio, six and a half years ago. Since then, she has donated annually to the Life Enrichment Fund and become a volunteer at Parkvue, helping others just like she has for years in Erie County.

Virginia Duff is certain a higher power led her to Parkvue Community.

“I’m pleased I made the decision - at God’s urging – to come to Parkvue. I feel this is where God wanted me to be,” Virginia said.

“This is where I need to be just for my own comfort. Sometimes I think I’m not going to have enough money to live here all of my life. God put me here and He’s going to see that I have enough money to live.”

Virginia, 93, moved to Parkvue in Sandusky, Ohio, six and a half years ago. Since then, she has donated annually to the Life Enrichment Fund and become a volunteer at Parkvue, helping others just like she has for years in Erie County.

“Several things I do seem like nothing. I just do them,” Virginia said.

Virginia gives a small donation to the enrichment fund, which provides financial support for community projects and resident care.

“It’s helping somebody,” Virginia said.

Virginia, who once delivered meals to seniors for the Erie County Senior Center, now participates in a resident’s council at Parkvue.

She also answers questions at a help desk at Parkvue, visits residents who become ill and welcomes residents after they move into the community.

“It makes them feel at home,” Virginia said. “I’m the first person they really get to know. I find out about them and what they like to do. Somebody did that for me. As they talked to me they gave me a small gift. I try to expand on that.”

Virginia, of Berlin Heights, Ohio, retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company after 33 years at age 57.

Her proudest achievement, however, is graduating from Bowling Green State University Firelands, where she earned a degree in Human Services at 59. “When I was little I never thought of that. You just didn’t think of that. A girl didn’t anyway,” Virginia said.

“Walking to get my diploma … It was a very proud day.”
