United Church Homes is Pleased to Present the Sixth Annual Symposium
At the Intersection of Race and Age
At the Intersection of Race and Age is the theme for the 2021 Symposium as we look at two of the issues that are brought to the forefront of our collective consciousness out of the experience and data of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the past year, conversations about race entered into public and private conversations, political disputes and overflowed onto streets across this land. We have also heard statements of ageism publicly proclaimed by elected officials and others, even as our oldest citizens became the most vulnerable to this invisible virus. For those who live at this intersection, aging persons of color, they continue to experience life in systems that discriminate based on the color of their skin as they age into older adulthood. These layers of racism and ageism have exponential results. This is the intersection where we will focus our attention for this sixth annual event.
With a rise in COVID cases due to the Delta variant, we would like to remind you we have ample space available for virtual attendance. If you’d already registered and would like to move to a virtual spot, please email: cgordon@uchinc.org
