Former United Church Homes Board of Directors Chairman Bob Kutschbach served as the emcee to award nearly $15,000 to five different affordable housing communities during the 2014 Wishing Well Awards celebration.
Wishing Well funds are awarded based on a competitive grant process, using a scoring matrix similar to a publicly-funded competitive grant process. The program was initiated in 2004 to help housing managers learn grant writing skills and increase their awareness for grant opportunities that may be available from local, community public and private funders.
Wishing Well Awards are funded annually from individual donations to UCH that are restricted to the Housing Services program. More than $90,000 has been awarded during the past decade to support 115 projects for various housing communities.
This year, 10 applications were received and five projects were funded. Some used innovative ideas to present their entries, including a video production of a skit that featured residents “acting” to communicate the need for a project.
