NaviGuide Receives $16,000 in Grants to Support 22 Low Income Older Adults
Columbus, OH (Apr. 3, 2023) NaviGuide, a service coordination service by United Church Homes, has received two grants, totaling $16,000 to allow lower income adults to access the service through subsidies in Franklin and Delaware counties and has assisted twenty-two individuals to-date.
- The Columbus Foundation awarded NaviGuide a grant of $10,000 to expand its services to underserved communities in the Columbus area from the Walter H. and Veda B. Johnson Fund, The Harold and Eleanor Johnson Fund, The William A. and Magdalene E. Kottke Fund and the Ardath H. Lynch Fund of The Columbus Foundation.
- The Harry C. Moores Foundation has awarded NaviGuide a grant of $6,000.
These funds allow NaviGuide to increase outreach efforts and provide additional resources to individuals and families in need.
NaviGuide, a program for adult children and their aging parents, offers a dedicated service coordinator who provides personal solutions for senior services. In 2022, NaviGuide provided services to an estimated 250 older adults. Service coordinators, or NaviGuides visit older adults in their homes linking them to assistance at home and helping them access needed services.
In Franklin County, 25.05% of adults ages 65 and older have an income of less than $25,000 a year. As such, the grant will provide subsidies for the NaviGuide monthly service fee to assist older adults in need.
NaviGuide Program Director, Kim Yoder said to-date, the scholarships have provided 22 older adults the service for three months each.
“We are incredibly grateful for these grants from The Columbus Foundation and the Harry C. Moores Foundation,” said Kim Yoder. “With this support, we can continue to provide critical assistance to those who need it most, and work towards our goal of ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all.”
NaviGuide’s service coordination service helps individuals and families navigate the healthcare system by providing information, resources, and support. Its services include assistance with accessing healthcare services, coordinating appointments and transportation, and providing education and advocacy.
